That is me, too. Even at work, when I have to develop a new food item, I will sit and think it through for days before I ever actually begin the physical act of creation.
But sometimes I think I just think too much, and don't do enough.
I do a lot of thinking. In fact, I do more thinking than knitting (my chosen medium), but when I do knit, I've thought about it so much that it works much better than if I had just dived into it.
So the blank canvas must be stared at. You need to visualise what it will become.
you know how some people draw plans and make detailed lists and then actually follow them to completion? I just don't do that at all. In a way I *do* dive in because I never have anything formal done or written but I do have all this thought process.

Thinking can be just as valuable as intensive planning and list making. Don't underestimate it.
